Physical Form

The first generation exhibited extreme dimorphism — no two looked alike, because no two Watchers were alike. Some bore vestigial wing-structures, others the bioluminescent skin of their angelic sires. All were enormous by any human standard. 1 Enoch 7 gives their consuming hunger as the defining physical trait: they devoured all human food, then livestock, then humans, then turned on each other. They were appetite given divine scale.

What They Did

1 Enoch 7:2–5 records their trajectory: 'And the women became pregnant and gave birth to great giants whose heights were three hundred cubits. These devoured all the toil of men, until men were unable to sustain them. And the giants turned against men in order to devour them. And they began to sin against birds, and against animals, and against reptiles, and against fish, and they devoured one another's flesh and drank the blood from it.' They were the mechanism by which the Watcher intervention destroyed the pre-Flood world — the direct cause of the Flood's necessity.

Threat Assessment

Beyond their physical scale, the Nephilim Warriors possessed partial celestial inheritance: accelerated healing, strength no weapon could easily overcome, and the gravitational presence of their angelic sires. Their deaths in the Flood did not end them — 1 Enoch 15 states their spirits, released from their hybrid bodies, became the evil spirits that roam the earth. The Flood killed the bodies. The spirits persist.

⚠ Known Vulnerabilities & Counters

The Flood was the specific divine response to Nephilim overpopulation. The counter was environmental — a reset of the biological substrate, not a targeted engagement.
The disembodied spirits (Rephaim lineage) that resulted from Nephilim death are a secondary threat category. They are weaker than their physical predecessors but more numerous and less containable.
Specific bloodlines survived the Flood through the Anakim, Rephaim, Emim, and Zamzummim populations. The threat was compressed, not eliminated.

Keeper's Notes

Genesis 6:4 contains one of the most compressed statements in the primordial record: 'The Nephilim were on the earth in those days, and also afterward.' The 'afterward' is doing enormous theological work in six words. The Flood happened. And afterward: still. The Anakim in Canaan at the time of the conquest were not a new event. They were a continuation.

Context

The Dead Sea Scrolls contain a fragmentary text known as the 'Book of Giants' — a full narrative of the Nephilim's deeds, their dreams, and their confrontation with divine judgment. Named Nephilim warriors in that text include Ohya, Hahya, and Mahway. The text is extraordinary: it gives the giants prophetic dreams foretelling the Flood, and records their attempt to send Mahway to Enoch to plead for mercy. The answer they receive is annihilation.

Theological Significance

The Nephilim Warriors are the point of no return. Their creation is precisely what makes the Flood not just possible but theologically necessary. But 1 Enoch 15 raises an impossible question: when their bodies die, their spirits — neither fully human nor fully angel — have no place to go. Heaven will not receive them; Sheol is for mortals. And so they roam. Every evil spirit, every demon of the ancient world, is understood in this tradition as a Nephilim Warrior that survived the Flood in the only form it could: unmoored, hungry, and looking for a body to inhabit.
